Canicross Womens Masters 2

Silver Medallist:

 Susie Tawney

Rivelin, my German Shorthaired pointer breed by Val Tew. She is now three years old. She is my only dog, and a joy to own. She has natural drive, and an inbuilt enthusiasm for running. She took to canicross so easily. She passes anything and doesn’t care whether she is chasing or on her own. She is a perfect size for me, although we did have a dramatic fall in the Czech Republic last year on a very steep, rocky, downhill on the first day.  We still went on to win.

I have competed in canicross since 2008 when a friend mentioned the sport to me. She had seen a demonstration at Crufts. At the time I had a collie and did lots of free running with him. I have now been to 7 European championships with three different dogs and been a medalist at all of them. I also run for GB as a masters athlete on the track, road and across country and I am the reigning World Indoor Champion at the 3000m for over 55’s a title I am very proud to have won earlier this year in South Korea. I have run every year since graduating from Loughborough University back in 1981 and have been a member of Leamington athletics club for 29 years. I am now also very proud to run for Canicross Midlands .Unlike many of my canicross friends I still do most of my running without being assisted by Rivelin, a concept which is very strange to many of them! However, I just love running with Rivelin and competing in a sport we both love, along with so many friends. It was an honour to represent the BSSF out in Italy and return with a  silver medal behind the amazing Kim Mazzuca.
