re: Letter to Breed Clubs - May 26th 2013

Dear Clubs,

As you will aware the UK has, for the first time in our sled dog sport history, a new federation that aims to be an umbrella for the sport of sled dog racing, encompassing all disciplins and to give us a voice on the national and international stage.

We are however aware of peoples concerns over the future of the registered nordic pure bred breeds within the sport, especially as it will be allowing more open class racing and encouraging all breeds to compete.

One of the concerns of the BSSF and indeed the IFSS, who we are provisional members of, is that the Nordic or sled dog  Pure Bred breeds are continued to be protected, encouraged and supported with in our sport.

To this end we would like to offer to form a Pure Bred sub committee to work together to achieve this, feed back information to the breed clubs and help in your efforts to promote and protect the breeds.

The BSSF is a 'sports' based organisation not a breed club or breed based organisation, but with the majourity of sled dogs in our country being pure bred, we feel we should be there to support them.

I would like to invite the breed clubs if you feel it is necessary, to form a sub committee with the BSSF to ensure that the pure breeds are continued to be supported and represented in the sport.

If you would like to be involved,  then please get in touch so we may discuss this further.

Best wishes

Matt Hammersley

VP for development BSSF

re: New organisations now affiliated - July 29th 2013

We would like to welcome the following organisations to the BSSF as Affiliate members:

Affiliated British Sleddog Activities - ABSA.

ABSA have been organising sled dog races and events in the Uk for over 23 years, some of the first to go independant away from the breed clubs to focus purely on racing. ABSA have previously been ESDRA and IFSS members.

Cani-fit

Cani-Fit organise canicross, bikejor and scooter events and race in Scotland and is run by

Lyndsey Cloughley. Cani-fit also offer training for dogs and their owners alike.

re: STOP PRESS: BSSF has achieved full IFSS membership - June 2nd 2014

Over the weekend of the 30th may - 1st June, four members of the BSSF council (John Carter, Charlie Brecknell, Leigh Marsden, Matt Hammersley) travelled to Brussels for the IFSS General Assembly to put forward our application to become full members of the IFSS.

During the Saturdays conference, the BSSF was voted in by 58 out of 58 votes to be accepted and to become full members. We would like to say a huge well done to all those on the council, to our members and a thank you to SDAS for agreeing to promote our application to become the representative member from Great Britain for sled dog sport. We would also like to thank all the countries that showed us support, a particular thank you to USA and Canada for their kind words expressed in front of all those present at the General Assembly on the announcement of the voting results. We look forward to working with you all in the organisation and promotion of our sport.

This means that as full members of the IFSS we now have full voting rights, guaranteed places for our athletes at future international races, the ability to host further World cup, European championships and World championships in Great Britain as well as a say in matters that reflect our sport in IFSS meetings and assemblies.

This is a historic opportunity for all us involved in sled dog sport in the UK.

We will have more news from the general assembly over the next few days.

Well done to all !
